The other day I took my friend Celeste (and her daughter) out in my fave city, Tacoma. (Don't tell Vancouver I said that ;) )

I met Celeste when I photographed her kids with Santa. We ended up talking and I found out she is on her way with photography. Of course I'm excited, I invite her to click chicks, she comes, and the rest is history!

Yesterday was sooooo fun!

Ali, Jaclynn, and I went out for a photoshoot.
Dual purpose: photograph Ali's new color and show Jac some camera stuff (she just got a new slr for christmas!!!).

I was trying out a wide angle lens I borrowed from a friend (thank you Angie!!). I have been wanting wide angle for the last year and now I am hooked!

Ode to miss Shannon Sewell on the combos-she is a constant inspiration on image collections!

I am up in Vancouver for a couple of photoshoots this weekend.

Ok, so i get to hang with Ali (sister) too,
soooo, not as much work as I started this post with. :)

Play, work, play, yay!

On top of all that, Ali colored my super new hair a super new color(s). Images to follow...

This morning I had the pleasure of photographing Marty Lou.

I knew that this shoot was going to be magic. It was sight unseen (the location) and I only met them once (at Ali's brithday brunch) but there was no question in my mind. Absolute perfection. As in 70% cocoa, know what I mean?

They are Marty+Mary Lou=Marty Lou. You'd think it was almost too cute but you don't even think that. It just fits, perfect. I like calling them that. Marty Lou. It makes them smile. And they are cute when they smile! :)

So here is the latest scoop on Marty Lou.

Before the weekend I went to Vancouver (south) to see a couple of photographer friends, Kathy & Shannon.

Whenever I get together with them I feel so inspired in so many ways. We share ideas, go photograph together, talk shop, hang out, make sarcastic jokes, laugh, all that. I always leave feeling filled up, sometimes overflowing ;)

These visits, as well as my local friends, inspired me to put together a chick photographers group. I wanted all that idea sharing, energy, and inspiration to happen often. A get together involving coffee and whatever else we wanted to do/talk about in a relaxed environment.

So far it has been great! It's still in the beginning stages. I don't know exactly where it is going to go (maybe I should make some plans!) but it is only going to get better and better :)

While I was in Vancouver I made a new friend. Kathy and Shannon shared her with me and I am so glad! She is super cool and her images make my eyes happy! Now I can share her with you...

Some of you may or may not know that I took a trip to New York in the fall.
I had a client who moved there and asked me to come out and photograph their family for their yearly portraits.

Oh my gosh, way to make a girl feel special!

As you can see from these images, they are the cutest!
And they have the best relationship. Close, pure, strong, and fun!

We also took a trip to FAO Schwartz.
Boy do they have A LOT of everything your heart may desire!
Imagine a little boy trying to take in THAT MANY Spidermen!
Overload! :)

The main thing I can say about the city is it is HUGE!
Look at how small those cars are and how big those buildings are!
It was amazing, truly.

And this one just melts my heart!
I stayed at their house when I was there.
When I wasn't where he was he would ask "Where's Willow?" in the cutest voice I have ever heard!!

The holidays were awesome!!

My brother Casey came up from San Diego (he is a Marine staioned down there on his way to Japan in January), and my sister Ali came down from Vancouver (she is the crazy hairstylist).

Our goal was to put together some images for my dad for his
birthday coming up January 4th.

We couldn't have better luck when it came to the weather-I was so happy! You can't tell but we were FREEZING!!!!

They were such good sports, even my poor brother: 1-he only has sisters who want to watch America's Next Top Model and talk about hair and makeup and 2-we make him take pictures. Well, we can't MAKE him do anything (a trait that runs in our stubborn family) but it's not like he was jumping up and down waving his hands saying "me next, me next!!"

I love the holidays because I get to chill with the fam. They are so cool and crazy and I love them!!!! Here are a couple from yesterday...

Ali's friend gave her this shirt for her b-day (Christmas eve baby, but that is another story). I think you may already be able to tell without even knowing her that it fits her well.

And I'm not even talking about the size people!

And here is the cutest pic of my brother Casey!!

The light was so beautiful yesterday when we were leaving Vancouver, that whole sun shining it's warm light throught the clouds. I had to pull over and take a couple. I wonder if my fam ever gets sick of it/me? Oh yeah, don't care!!! :)

Yes, those are her real lashes! I know, they are unbelievable!

I just want to give Casey a big hug here!

And here is baby sister Sylvie with her fabulous new hair color.

Ali (crazy sister) is a hairstylist and gave Sylvie the new look.

We are going to tell dad that "it was just a deep conditioning treatment that brought out the natural color" ;)

Our family always had rules about that stuff. I didn't dye my hair for the first time until I was 17 and it was a risk I took to "go against the family". My mom was super granola and hair dye has peroxide and stuff. We also ate things like oatmeal for breakfast and really nutty brown bread. Yum.

Ok, so now that I'm an adult I can appreciate all those things my mom made me eat. At least I know how to even if I choose not too. Eat, that is.

Choice and eating when I was a kid didn't go together.

It was good, I promise!

The only things I didn't have to eat were liver (omg that stuff would stink when it was cooking but my dad just LOVED it) and raw tomatoes.

It made me open to trying new things (at least once) and I like being open minded, thanks mom!

So on Sunday my photog friend Anna set up a shoot and I got to pick the spot, yay!

This girly was a trooper! I usually get so hot photographing but this day was so cold that I was just right with my down jacket on. And as you can tell, she was not wearing down!

Today I went to yoga.
For the 3rd time in a row :)

Today I went to Commencement Bay Coffee Company.
25th and Jefferson, in Tacoma. Great light, great coffee, and the scone was yum!

There were a lot of images from this session that I was pleased with.
Then there is this one.

There is something about this image that I just love.
As I'm sitting here thinking what exactly is it? I realize it's a couple of things.

First, I think of her personality.
She is strong willed and independent, you can see it on her face. I like that.
Second, I like it how she is down in the corner with all that extra space on top.

Then I think of how it feels a little retro to me and realize that it reminds me of my own childhood. Something about the colors in the leaves, the silkiness and tones in her hair.

And yes, the strong willed independence, definitely feels familiar.

Then I had fun with some new filters and now I am head over heals. :)

I met this family at a daycare I photographed when mom was pregnant.

Things have changed a little since then! :)

This past weekend I hooked up Danielle with a photo shoot.

I met up with David (a photographer I met at a workshop a couple weeks ago) and we took turns photographing this beautiful confident girl. I'm going to try to teach her to drive a stick shift next time I see her. She claims 4 have tried before me but I have confidence and I'm determined!! We'll see how it goes :)

Rainy Day

I have been dying to do some portraits of kids in the rain
and today my dream came true!! :)

This little miss is very independent.
She loved the umbrella that I brought and this is what she
looked like when I asked her (very nicely) to put the umbrella
down and try wearing her hood...

Yaaa...no.

So back to the umbrella!

I kind of like that it is out of focus...I'm always looking for tack sharp
but sometimes you just have to get out of the box and feel it...
I love the way this one feels-fun!

My sister Ali just started at a new salon and this is the card I designed for her to use for her first promotion (4x6).

In the design, I was inspired by Dez to start color blocking; mike hren inspired the background texture and the brush that created it; Deena (and Pete) inspired perfect alignment of text, love the asymetrical, don't you? :)

I donated my sevices to a local school auction and met this girl.
I love her coloring and her face shape and her beautiful eyes.
You should see her closet, she has fantastic ecclectic taste for a junior. I can't wait to photograph her more and show more of her outfits :)

On Halloween I opened up the studio for costume portraits. Oh my gosh was that ever fun!!!! I hope you have as much fun looking at these cuties as I did photographing them.

I'm planning on "Costumed Cuties"again next year with donations being accepted for the CASA program for those of you who plan ahead :)

I'd say I'm a 70's/80's urban cowgirl. The sad part is you can't see my boots and everything, as usual too busy photographing everyone else :)

I spotted this cutie at Forza.
Do you know about Forza coffee? Better than Starbucks, you have to try!!

This is one of my faves-I made it into a large canvas wall portrait to use as a sample.
I'm definitely not the only one who thinks she is cute-everyone who sees her stretched on that beautiful canvas says so too!

She is at a stage in life that I absolutely ADORE and love to photograph.
She likes to go, go, go, go, go, go, go!

There were so many of her images that I just loved, scroll, scroll, scroll...

Those two bottom teeth...why do we need the rest of them when we could look this cute for the rest of our lives? Just four on top and two on bottom, that's it! Of course the constant wide grins and the cute way of walking help too :)

And she is already working on that perfect model pout...ta die for!

A little more Maui...

Wow it’s been long since my last post!!!! The days fly by here and there is so much to say I don’t even know where to start. So I will not start what I want to say, I’ll just show you the beauty I am enjoying instead. This is a small piece of what I have seen with my eyes. The camera hasn't been accompanying me as much as I thought it would but I've accepted that and have been relaxing, it has been soooo nice!

This is going to be a long one people...get ready!
Once again it is late and I am finishing up various photographer duties.

I should be in bed. But instead I am blogging.

I had to share some of the joys of my day :)

Today I traded portraits of this lovely boy for massage therapy, talk about win win!!
He is such a good boy and I love his smile :) :)

And this is his beautiful mama...

Then I met with this lovely lady for coffee at Blackwater and gave her her portraits.

At the same time, my photo friend Joni met with us (she likes coffee too). We found out that Joni has some great info that Tracy was looking for. They exchanged numbers and I was so happy that the timing was PERFECT. Two people that otherwise would never have met...vonderful :) yay!

Then this evening....

I showed little miss "Elle" and her "trusty husband" (as she calls him) the images of their super duper cute repeat-everything-you-just-said blond boy Oleg.

Elle is going to hook me up with a super fly website.
Finally I will be able to check that task off my list, I cannot wait!!!!!!

I can't believe how many cool people I meet in this profession. People with the same sense of humor as me (dry, dry, sarcastic, make-fun-of-yo'-self), people that relax and are easy going and nice. People that invite me for dinner!!! Thanks you guys, it was soooo tasty! And I'm not just saying that, promise!

I meet people that have THE COOLEST KIDS!! I played 1-2-3 throw u on the couch with Oleg for 15 minutes, giggle giggle giggle! (that's 2 giggles for Oleg, one for me). Oh my gosh it was so fun :)

I am so so so lucky to meet all of these awesome people, big kids and little (cuz we're all kids, right?).

I love love love being a photographer. Love it!!

Kelli, the girl next door...literally!

Kelli was the girl next door (to my dad's house in e-town) for many years. I saw her and her sister run around in their bathing suits all summer long. They played with my younger siblings and there is talk of a crush on my brother Casey (probably when they were 7 or so, how cute!). He says that he is a magnet, what can he say? I say our family is composed of confident members.
I just love her images!! I think she looks so cute! She has the most amazing eyes and lashes...

It is the high school senior season people! Don't miss out on the good weather!!

It's way too late to blog but I can help myself...there goes 20 minutes of sleep desperately needed, oh well!!

By now you all know my sista's are fab (including the one's I'm not related to!). Here are a few of the latest examples of fab-ness :)

I wanted to go to extremes and photograph the way you're not "supposed" to. Lotsa flash and when it is so dark my camera could hardly focus (note to self: next time bring a flash light). We were out in this field in Enumclaw, and this guy walks up. I'm ready to get kicked out but he is super cool. He just wants to make sure we aren't up to no good (they've had some problems) so I show him one of the beautiful images of my sis and say "isn't that cool?". He agrees and goes back home and we are free to continue. Boy it was fun!!

I hope you all enjoy these images as much as I had fun photographing them!!

This little guy can't even walk yet and he is already the coolest kid on the block.
His mom and dad let me take him around the streets of Tacoma and we created some awesome images!

Can the other kids he knows say that? Don't think so!
He is definitely a modern little man, willing to try new things :)

This glowing girl is my dear friend Stacey. I have know her for 11 years (where did the time go??) and my friends know her as "the best cook in the entire world". She has taught me tons about cooking and has the best sense of humor! I can't think of a time that we haven't had the best time together, even if we weren't doing anything!!!

Eight facts about me...

There is a fun little game going around the blogs where the author tells eight unknown facts about themselves and then 'tags' a new group of people. The superfly, crazy talented Shannon Sewell got me ;)
(I just plagiarized that whole bit, thanks Shannon!)

1. A virtually unknown fact...I am now the proud driver of a beautiful orange Honda Element!! Goodbye trusty Camry (not really, that's why I bought the Element!!). I have wanted this vehicle for a number of years, hated it when it first came out, then it grew on me. Have you ever seen the inside of one? You wouldn't believe the room!!

2. I have never broken a bone in my body and I just filled my first adult tooth at the ripe age of 31.

3. I am an ALIEN!! Resident alien that is...I am Canadian. No "eh?" though, I promise :)

4. My mom died when I was just shy of 25. Ovarian cancer got her, 4 mos from start to finish. My brother was 12, my two sisters were 8 & 16.

5. I love to cook. My faves are stir fry and homemade Martha Stewart style cream sauce over linguine. Real heavy cream, it's the best. And lots of garlic, the more the merrier!!

6. I wouldn't be where I am today without my dad. Besides encouraging me to be my own person, supporting me in what I chose to do with my life, and always giving me good advice, he bought me the digital SLR I use today for Christmas one year. That was so huge in taking my photography to the next level, a value that can never be repaid.

7. When I was a kid, we had a pet rabbit for a while call Lancelot. He was an angora and my mom wanted to make him into a sweater (for real, she knew how to do all that stuff).

8. Willow is my real name.

Calling All Girls

Whether you are 20, 30, 40, 50, 60+...you need fantastic images of yourself documenting your life and your style!
You may do it for your boyfriend or your husband, but you really need to do it for yourself!! As women we can be critical of ourselves-no more!

Taking the time to plan a day for you including all the girly stuff and a photoshoot can be fun fun fun!! It makes you feel good, not only for the end result but also for taking the time out of your busy life to be "selfish".
Spend a day with your best girlfriend, getting your makeup done (that is the best ever!), getting your hair done, wearing your fave outfits that make you feels super stylish, and showing what a beauty you are!

A fabulous photograph of yourself is worth a year of therapy! :)

Every girl has something that they would like to change about themselves...why not accentuate the positive...while you still have it!!!

You have a heart and a personality that others love, you can show that in a 2 dimensional way with your face and smile, why not? Why not?

Besides, have you all ever heard of Photoshop?? It's worth a thousand words!! :)

Off To Europe

This is Nelly, a brave and independent girl who will be spending her senior year in Europe! I am so excited for her to have experiences that she will cherish and remember for the rest of her life. There is no better time than the present to do the things you dream of.

I am inspired by her and have decided to take a trip myself. I wanted to jump and go next month but I think a little planning would make more sense.
I guess sometimes a girl has to be sensible :)
I try to be unsensible at least every once in a while, I think it keeps me well rounded!!!

More Sister Sylvie

Yesterday my sister Sylvie came down for her birthday photoshoot. She brought her friend and we hit a couple places around the studio. We have done so many shoots together that with slight direction she is all set, it is soooo much fun!

Last time she was here she saw the construction going on and had the great idea for the image below. How cool is that?? And with legwarmers-I wish I looked that cool in my legwarmers when I was a kid!

Almost to Canada

Shawna & her twin Scott, aren't they the cutest??

This past weekend I took a trip with my beautiful friend Shawna to hang with her family in Northport. It is about 45 minutes outside of Colville and 2 1/2 hours!!! from the closest Costco. There are deer in your yard day and/or night and people don't lock their doors. If you get lost (Scott!), the person at the gas station probably knows where so and so lives and can give you directions and the color of their house. :) My main objective (besides hanging with my homegirl) was to photograph Shawna and her siblings together.

I've known them all for a number of years and they are a kick! Great sense of humor & like to act silly, no wonder we all get along! :)

It was interesting seeing the other side of life: slow and steady.
I can't tell you how many traffic signals I see each day, how many times I am on the freeway, and always on the go, go, go.
The only animals in my yard are my two cats and I would NEVER leave my doors unlocked, not even to run to Safeway.
I consider myself a city girl but I grew up in places filled with trees and mountains and I enjoyed them. To be able to run around the woods until it gets dark with your friends is the best.
Places where everyone has a garden and everything around you feels "fresh".
All that said, I love convenience and living so close to downtown Tacoma and all the area has to offer.
I can always go on vacation and I would probably go mad without high speed internet! :)

New studio: Olivia and Claire

I first met these girls at their preschool during a project called "The Eyes Have It".



These two definitely have "it".
They came to my new studio space and we had some fun!



When they came back to see the images, we went on a train ride!
We hopped on right around the corner from the studio and went down to
Tully's off 9th for some hot drinks.

These images are from a fun photo day with my friend Kevin. He is just getting into photography (just bought his first SLR, yay!) and I am schooling him on the world of RAW (photogs know what I mean).

Normally I am a die hard people photographer but that day it was all design and line. I didn't touch these images for a couple of months, too busy with interesting people :)

When I did I was very pleased. I took a different approach and gave the images a totally different look than what your eye would see while visiting the outside of the museum.

I could actually see these hanging on my own walls, I have one as my desktop and will rotate through all of them. I love contrast and punch as you can see.

Sometimes things that are obvious aren't that obvious
to you until someone else brings on the realization.

Kathy and Shannon have helped me to see a number of those things. Those two girls are constantly photographing their own and each others children. They take them on concept shoots, do fun stuff, document each others lives in a very fun and connected way.

After a while I was asking myself, "why am I not doing this for my photographer friends??".
When was the last time they had their family photographed?
The best part is they will let me do whatever I want :)
You have seen Adoriah (Resa's daughter) and you will soon see her two brothers (I can't wait!!!) and that is just the start.

This beauty is Nicole.

I love her face shape, her eyes, her hair, and her funky style.
Carla is her mom, one of my closest friends, and a fellow photographer. Carla and I have a great time together and we compliment each other in the greatest ways.I don't know what I would do with out photographers like her around to help, inspire, and support me. And the amazing thing is she is not the only one.

I really can't even begin to tell you how lucky I am to be surrounded by these AWESOME "chicks that click". I would not be growing at the rate I am if it wasn't for them.

They help me realize those things I can't see, they inspire me, they help me progress and grow. They know how I feel and what I am talking about, we relate on so many levels.

So this is what photographers do for fun...

These two girls independently are Kathy and Shannon.
Together, "Shathy".

They are two peas in a pod and inspire me everyday with their images (I am upset when I check their blogs and there isn't something new!).
As Kathy would say, they are "AMAZING"!!
On Friday I met with them and we photographed each other around my new studio location.
OMG it was a blast!
They help me to see new angles, ideas, images, everytime I am with them!
They are endless inspiration...
I love them like my own two sisters.
And they are just as sarcastic, yay!!

Contrast, Beauty...

I have a "thing" for things that are different.
When I put on an outfit and think "does this go?"
Maybe there's no matching colors, or two pieces
that aren't related, it's not the "norm".
It feels good!
It's individual style, it's CONTRAST!
Sometimes I see people looking at me in those outfits.
Some are wondering, what??, some are admiring (maybe).
I want this feeling,
this contrast,
my individual style,
to show in my work as well.
Some people will wonder...
Why is this beatiful girl all dressed up in a place like that?
Because I asked her to! :)
And hopefully some people will see what I see and enjoy it.

Where do I start?

I've been on a mission to photograph kids
in places they wouldn't normally be photographed.
I love contrast!

Recently I took a trip to Arizona and boy was it fun!
Wanna know what I did?

Nothing! except eat and soak up the sun, yay!!

At times I am so tired of the weather here.
I've always lived in the Northwest so pools
and dry heat sound very nice.
People from those areas always love all the trees
and "green" we have here.
I'm starting to think I do too.
I guess the grass is always greener as they say.
We'll see how I feel come December and outdoor
photography includes a warm jacket AND a rain coat!!

Three Sisters & A New Friend

My little baby sister Sylvie...how did she get so big?

I think that is exactly what my dad is asking!

May I brag?

She is very cool and has a fabulous sense of style (she was best dressed at her school last year).
She has lots of nice friends, always buys me something very thoughtful for my birthday, and lets me make fun of her all the time!

Her future plans include attending art school and becoming a fashion designer, yay!

Her outfits inspire me to no end!

I have to say it's a great relationship.

It's nice to have her as my model and she has a photographer as a sister, mutually beneficial!!

Would I risk serious injury for a quick rush of adrenaline and fun?
No thank you! I'll take my intact body and photograph instead!!

I did make a new friend while I was there-the sand! It is a fine dust covering me, my car, and EVERYTHING that accompanied me across the mountains. In exchange for good weather and good times with friends, it's worth it. I'll just have to remind myself of that fact while I'm vacuuming my car for two hours! :)
